China to Offer DMB, Wireless WAN Using Its Own Standards
December 09, 2005
According to the Korean Ministry of Information and Communication, the Chinese SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television) will start testing a service, which includes both Wireless WAN (Wide Area Network) and DMB, in several Chinese cities in 2006. It plans to increase the coverage of the new service to all parts of China by the time the 2008 Olympics in Beijing get under way. The Chinese government wants the country to have its own standards of DMB and Wireless WAN technologies used in this service, and to achieve this, the government will partner with Korean WiBro and DMB players, such as Posdata, to develop such standards.
